The season is turning. Days are shorter, light sits lower, and weather windows get less forgiving. All of it changes how an inspection day runs.

None of it needs to cost you data quality, as long as it is planned for. Working with the light rather than against it, adjusting exposure as conditions shift, and building in the flexibility to move when the weather does.

A few things worth planning around:

🕐 less daylight, so tighter scheduling

🌦️ changeable weather and shorter clear windows

☀️ lower sun angles that affect exposure across the blade

Also in an operation mode: do you need to check some repairs done or left undone? Now it is the moment.

The teams that stay consistent through autumn are usually the ones that planned for the conditions rather than reacted to them.

Lucia from our team will be in Valladolid for the operations and maintenance event run by AEE, the Spanish Wind Energy Association, on 14 October.

This time she is not only attending, she is speaking. Her talk is titled ‘La trampa del CAT 3: reinventando la priorizacion de las reparaciones de palas’ (The CAT 3 Trap: rethinking how blade repairs are prioritised).

O&M is where much of the real work on a wind farm happens, long after the turbines go up. It is also where blade condition, inspection planning and repair decisions start to carry serious cost. Those are the conversations we care about most.

If you are going to be there, come along to Lucia’s session, or catch her on the day. She can talk through how autonomous drone inspection with Dhalion and Eve and AI blade analytics support teams making decisions across their fleets.

📍 Feria de Valladolid, 14 October

🎤 Lucia speaking: “The CAT 3 Trap: rethinking how blade repairs are prioritised”

🤝 Come and see her presentation, or message Lucía Roca Fernández-Vizarra to fix a time to meet 1to1

You can watch as many videos as you like. But until you hold the drone, it stays a bit abstract. The same goes for the flying. People often assume there must be a pilot very focused, fighting the wind with two thumbs on a controller. There isn’t. You press play. The drone does the rest while you keep an eye on it.

That is the part most people want to see with their own eyes, so we are doing something about it.

We are running a Free Demo campaign near Bristol for the first 5 companies interested. If you want to see it in the field rather than on a screen, come along.

What you will get out of it:

📏 A proper look at the drone. Its size, its weight, how it sits in your hand before it goes up.

▶️ The launch itself. No manual piloting, no joystick heroics. Start it and watch it work.

🌦️ The real conditions. Wind, light, a field that is never as tidy as a brochure photo. You see what is easy and what takes a bit of care.

🤝 Time to ask the awkward questions, the ones that only come up when the thing is right in front of you.

Send us a message to info@perceptual-robotics.com with ”DEMO in BRISTOL” in the subject and we will get to you.

https://www.perceptual-robotics.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/202609Damage-detection.mp4

This is where AI-supported analysis for wind turbine damage detection earns its place. It flags the areas worth a closer look, so a blade expert can confirm what matters rather than hunting for it. The judgement stays human. The AI just makes sure less slips through (according to our figures up to 14%).

Why it helps:

🔍 subtle defects get surfaced, not skipped

🧠 consistent flagging across large image sets

👁️experts spend their time confirming, not searching

Catching the small things early is often what keeps them from becoming the expensive things later.

Save the date. 🗓️ WindEnergy Hamburg is back.

📍Our team returns to the Hamburg exhibition grounds from 22 to 25 September 2026, bringing the onshore and offshore wind industry together for four days at Hall B7, Stand 602.

It is one of the dates we look forward to most. The halls are where a lot of the year’s most useful conversations happen, about blade inspections, repair planning, data, and the practical side of keeping turbines working well for longer.

If WindEnergy Hamburg is already in your diary, let us know. We would be glad to book some time to talk.

We’re proud to be leading ADBISOV, a project supported by the European Space Agency (ESA) under the ARTES 4.0 Business Applications & Space Solutions programme,to transform how offshore wind turbine blades are inspected.

Offshore blades are critical, but inspecting them is hard, costly, and infrequent. Today a full campaign means dedicated vessel time and heavy planning.

ADBISOV makes inspection routine: an autonomous drone launched and recovered from a Service Operation Vessel. It’s space-enabled throughout, using satellite connectivity for remote operation, and precise satellite positioning.

The payoff: lower-cost, more frequent inspections → better data, earlier damage detection, smarter repair planning, and improved turbine availability.

We’re delighted to be working with ORE Catapult, the UK’s leading technology innovation and research centre for offshore renewable energy, on the project.

More to come as we progress. 🌊🚁🛰️

A few days ago we held the kick-off meeting for a new development project supported by @InnovateUK’s Investor Partnerships programme. Project is called “Advanced Autonomous Robotics Platform for Multi-Asset Wind Farm Inspection and Digital Analytics” and we’re grateful to Innovate UK for continuing to back innovation in the UK technology sector for helping unlock this opportunity.

Now the real work begins. It’s an 18-month development programme, followed by a further period of field validation before anything reaches customers: because building useful technology for the wind industry takes far more than a good idea. It requires development, testing, validation in the field and plenty of iteration before a product is ready for everyday use.

Over the coming months, we’ll be working on new capabilities aimed at making blade inspections and maintenance decisions faster, more consistent and easier to scale and starting to look beyond blades at other parts of the turbine too. This includes further developments in autonomous inspections, AI-assisted analysis and the tools that help operators turn inspection data into action.

Some of our most successful developments started with a simple operational frustration.

The Repair Now Ratio (RNR) is a good example. Anyone managing hundreds of blade damages across a fleet knows how quickly repair planning can become a maze of spreadsheets, competing priorities and difficult decisions. RNR was developed to provide a clearer way to prioritise repairs based on risk and economic impact.

That’s often how innovation starts. Not with technology for technology’s sake, but with a practical problem that needs solving.

We’re also growing the team behind this work: recruiting robotics, flight-test, data and customer solutions roles over the coming months.

If there’s a task in your workflow that feels unnecessarily slow, repetitive or difficult, we’d love to hear about it. Some of our best ideas have come directly from conversations with people working in the field every day.
